I read this article to get some insight into the idea that NFTs are part of the art world and the digital art world. I remember when there were a ton of people getting tricked into buying NFTs and a lot of the artists that I followed actively hated the idea of them, I was also not a huge fan, especially after the Trump ones came out and it was like a mockery of actual art.
Had I done more research during the time that they were super big, I might have learned that there were some really good things coming from this new kind of movement. I had never heard of the artist Awelewa Charles, but learning that this Nigerian artist was able to use that process to triple his earnings as an artist is an amazing thing. I think that the art world has become so saturated and so difficult to actually make it as a career without some kind of backup that using NFTs and other means as a way to actually survive as only an artist is a way of gaming the system, which is amazing. There are still so many artists today who think you can only be an artist if you have work in galleries and you have a tenure track teaching position and having more opportunities to sell work over the internet using these alternative methods is a really good way to prove those old school artists wrong.
